Introduction
Psalm 22 is the Easter Song in God’s Songbook of Psalms. It is also the most quoted Psalm in the New Testament. It’s a song by David, about David and also more than David — for it is a song about Jesus. It’s a pretty long song, but a song with plenty of movement from lament and perplexity to worship and praise.
A. PLIGHT (vv. 1-11)
1. Forsaken by God
2. Forsaken by men
B. PAIN (vv. 12-21)
C. PRAISE (vv. 22-31)
Conclusion
Psalm 22 is not ultimately a sad song of abandonment, but a glad song of salvation and God’s global glory through the death and resurrection of God’s Son, as it moves from the plight to pain and to praise.
