Introduction
The exiles have returned. The temple is being rebuilt.
The question that cuts to the heart: ‘When you fasted and mourned … was it really for me …?’ (7:5)
We stand out and rise as God’s people when:
A. WE ABANDON EMPTY RITUALS (chp. 7)
“Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?” (7:3)
B. WE AWAKEN TO GOD’S PRESENCE (chp. 8)
“I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy …” (8:2)
“… the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Judah seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts …” (8:19)
Conclusion
“Let us go … for we have heard that God is with you.” (8:23)
