Introduction

Leviticus chapters 1-3 gives three portraits of our Holy God — the God who is All Deserving, Providing and Welcoming in the burnt, grain and fellowship offering which are voluntary but expected.

Leviticus chapters 4-7 gives two portraits of our Holy God in the two mandatory offerings when we sin against God and others:

A. THE HOLY GOD WHO IS ALL FORGIVING: THE SIN OFFERING (Lev 4:1-5:13, 6:24-30)

“If anyone … sins unintentionally…, he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without blemish, for his sin which he has committed … And the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be forgiven.” (Lev 4:27-28, 31)

B.THE HOLY GOD WHO IS ALL RESTORING: THE GUILT OFFERING (Lev 5:14-6:7, 7:1-10)

“If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unintentionally … he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation … for a guilt offering. He shall also make restitution … And the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering …”  (Lev 5:15-16)
