Introduction

David writes Psalm 63 in the wilderness of Judah — physically depleted, hunted, exposed. Yet his deepest need is not safety but God Himself.

Two reasons why longing for God’s presence is essential for discipleship:

A. GOD’S PRESENCE SATISFIES US (vv. 1-5)

“My soul thirsts for you … Your steadfast love is better than life … My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food” (vv. 1, 3, 5)

B. GOD’S PRESENCE SUSTAINS US (vv. 6-8)

“When I remember you … meditate on you … you have been my help … I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” (vv. 6-8)

Conclusion

Our longing for God’s presence is met by a God who longs for our presence.
