Building “Kingdom Bridges” in Myanmar

The ravages of Covid-19 pandemic reached Myanmar in March 2020. The country’s economy including people’s livelihood were greatly affected. In response to their needs, Covenant BAM team worked with our in-country partners in raising funds to purchase and distribute daily necessities to those in need. A total of 1,440 people consists of 360 families, 160 […]

Project Bless the Migrant Workers (BMW)

I was a volunteer of Project BMW which distributed meal packs at Little India. At that time, I was approached by a team leader to prayerfully consider befriending and adopting a small group of migrant workers who were stuck in their factory for over two months. The approach to engage them is through delivering food […]

Learning To Trust God

I went to a village in Cambodia on a youth missions trip. We played games with the children, taught them English, did crafts with them, and had a Christmas party for them. I even had the privilege of sharing the Gospel with 100 children and youth!

Helping Families in Nepal during COVID-19 Lockdown

Nepal is one of the countries where BAM is engaging Christian business owners and workers to live out discipleship in the marketplace. Nepal has not been spared from the impact of Covid-19 leading to a national lockdown that started on 24 March.

Because God Loves Us

It was about 2am and the rest of my team was asleep. I was having trouble sleeping so I got up and went outside. I looked up at the stars in the sky and plainly asked God, “What am I doing here?” On the first few days of the trip I thought I had really […]

What Our Young People Say About Missions

“God is working in the lives of countless people at home and abroad. Our purpose is to partner with Him in seeking these ones out. Will you join Him on this adventure?”

Persevering in Prayer

“Prayer does not equip us for greater works — prayer is the greater work … When you labour at prayer, from God’s perspective there are always results. What an astonishment it will be to see, once the veil is finally lifted, all the souls that have been reaped by you, simply because you have been […]

When Missions Hits Home

Serving in Home Missions impacts more than just strangers, as Winnie from Covenant EFC’s China Nationals Fellowship found out.   When we think of missions, our minds may inadvertently drift to stories of great missionaries travelling thousands of miles away from home — braving persecution, reaching out to indigenous peoples, doing heroic work for the Kingdom. After all, those […]

The Triumph

Observation:

What characterises the triumph of God’s people in tribulations under tyrants?

Deeper Reflection
God’s people living under tyrants and suffering tribulations under them can triumph – whether we are delivered from or destroyed in tribulation. The triumph rests on a threefold confidence. We know the conclusion of evil. It is repeated in manifold ways in Daniel that evil that comes through inhuman kings – no matter how great and how long – will definitely come to an end: “he will be broken” (Dan 8:25), “he will be found no more” (Dan 11:19), “yet he will come to his end” (Dan 11:45) and “all these events will be completed” (Dan 12:7).We know God’s calling for us: To be a suffering people – to be captured, plundered, burned or killed (Dan 11:33). But in our suffering, we can be strong as “people who know their God” (Dan 11:32), knowing that God is purging and purifying us to become a sanctified (Dan 11:35; 12:10) and shining people who “shine brightly” with heavenly brightness in the hostile world (Dan 12:3). And we will be a steadfast people who “keep waiting and attain to the 1,335 days” (Dan 12:12) – until we become a sovereign people who “receive and possess the kingdom forever” from “the Ancient of Days” (vv.13-14, 18, 27).We know who is in control. The tribulations under the tyrants in Daniel 7 to 12 are all subject to and subsumed under “that which is decreed will be done” (Dan 11:36; 9:26, 27) “at the appointed time” (Dan 11:27, 29, 35).We conclude Daniel with this theological-discipleship summary statement: We can triumph in tribulations under tyrants when we trust with tenacity in the One who is on the throne.
