“Who would have believed it?” — that’s how Isaiah 53 begins.
Isaiah 53 tells of Someone whom no one imagined would end up being a Person who saved so many others.
Even though on earth, this Person was rejected and excluded by many, considered an outcast, cursed by God. In the end, posthumously, after death, He is honoured as one who was truly great. One who in fact did so much to save the many — many, many thousands because of what He did.
I am sometimes asked what it means to say I am a Christian. Here’s one answer: To be a Christian means I want to believe — I want to believe in a God who knows the pain of rejection and shame; a God who knows the darkness of death in a cold, lonely tomb; in a God who promises us Resurrection and Renaissance beyond our earthly illness and pains. It means to believe in Jesus the Christ — rejected on earth, but resurrected for eternity.
Would you believe?
