Introduction
Recap: Matthew 5:20 as the overall thrust of the Sermon on the Mount
When it comes to a greater righteousness in relation to our material possessions, Jesus calls us to focus on two key aspects regarding the condition of our hearts:
A. TO GROW A WHOLLY DEVOTED HEART (OUR ALLEGIANCE TO GOD)
- Invest wisely! (vv.19-21)
- See clearly! (vv.22-23)
- Serve one Master only! (v.24)
B. TO GUARD AGAINST AN EASILY DIVIDED HEART (OUR ANXIETIES IN LIFE)!
Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious … (vv.25-32)
Conclusion
Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness … and do not be anxious … (vv.33-34)
