When we recover the greatness of God, we recover the reverence of worship.
Introduction
A. RECOVER WONDER BY SEEING THE THRONE (Rev 4)
Revelation 4 lifts our eyes from the uncertainty of earth to the certainty of heaven. Before John sees anything else, he sees the throne, reminding us that God is still sovereign and in control. Surrounding the throne are the rainbow of covenant mercy, flashes of lightning and thunder, the seven lamps, the sea of glass, the four living creatures, and the twenty-four elders laying down their crowns in worship. Every detail points to one reality: God alone is worthy of our awe. Before God changes our circumstances, He changes our perspective. When we see God rightly, we begin to worship rightly. This week, before you check your phone or face the demands of the day, take a moment to look to the throne.
B. RECOVER REVERENCE BY BOWING BEFORE THE LAMB (Rev 5)
Revelation 5 shifts our focus from the throne to the Lamb who alone is worthy. John weeps because no one can open the scroll until he hears the announcement, “Do not weep.” Expecting to see the Lion of Judah, John instead sees a Lamb that had been slain, revealing that Jesus conquered through His sacrificial death and victorious resurrection. Because He redeemed us by His blood, He alone deserves all worship. Heaven is never centred on our experience but on Christ’s worthiness. This week, identify the crowns you have been holding onto — your career, family, plans, success, or desire for control — and, like the twenty-four elders, lay them before the King in humble surrender, for worship has always been about Jesus.
