AGM 2026: A Family Conversation on Stewardship and the Road Ahead

On 11 April 2026, our Covenant family gathered for the 2026 Annual General Meeting. More than a governance milestone, the AGM was a meaningful time of thanksgiving, reflection, and shared discernment of how God is leading us forward as a church.

A Year of God’s Faithfulness
We began by giving thanks for God’s provision over the past year. Beyond numbers, what stood out was the spirit of generosity among Covenanters.

The Seed Fund journey, spanning several years, has been much more than a fundraising effort. It has been a discipleship journey of shaping hearts to trust God, give sacrificially, and participate in His work together.

Building for the Future: Spaces for Ministry
A key focus of the AGM was the progress of two major projects:

Sengkang Church Development
Envisioned as a “church without walls”, the Sengkang project seeks to:

  • Draw people closer to God
  • Strengthen community within the church
  • Welcome and serve the wider neighbourhood

This is not just a building, but a space where lives will be transformed and the gospel lived out.

Bukit Panjang (BPJ) A&A (Alterations & Additions) Renewal
After more than two decades, the BPJ centre is being renewed to:

  • Support growing ministries (children, youth, congregations)
  • Provide more functional and flexible spaces
  • Prepare for the next generation of ministry

Why are these projects needed?
These developments are not about expansion for its own sake. They are about mission.

Buildings are tools that enable discipleship, community, and outreach.

Stewardship in a Changing Environment
In light of rising construction costs and project complexities, members approved a contingency provision (Resolution 3) to ensure both projects can be completed responsibly.

What does this mean?

  • The contingency provides flexibility, not a commitment to spend
  • Strong financial discipline and oversight remain in place
  • Importantly, no additional fundraising is required

Through prior giving, reserves, and prudent planning, the church is able to support these projects faithfully.

Financial Stewardship and Health
The AGM also provided an overview of Covenant’s financial position.

Is the church financially stable?
Yes. Covenant remains in a healthy and stable position:

  • Building funds and reserves have been carefully stewarded
  • Cash flow is being managed prudently alongside project needs

At the same time, rising operating and ministry costs remind us of the need for continued faithful stewardship and giving as a church.

Leadership for the Next Season
Members also affirmed the re-election and appointment of Board members.

These leaders were selected through a structured nomination process, with careful consideration of:

  • Calling and character
  • Competence and experience
  • Alignment with Covenant’s core values

We thank God for raising both experienced and new leaders to serve the church.

All Resolutions Passed
All resolutions presented at the AGM were passed with strong support, including:

  • Adoption of AGM minutes
  • Election of Board members
  • Approval of contingency provision
  • Approval of audited accounts
  • Re-appointment of auditors

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

1. Will the church need to raise more funds for the building projects?
No. Existing funds, reserves, and prior giving are sufficient. The contingency provision does not require new fundraising.

2. Why was a contingency provision needed?
Construction costs and project conditions have changed since initial approval. The contingency ensures projects can continue smoothly without unnecessary delays.

3. Are we at risk of overspending on the projects?
No. Budgets continue to be carefully managed. The contingency is a precaution, and all spending remains subject to strict governance and oversight.

4. Why not delay the projects instead?
Delays may lead to further cost increases and ministry disruptions. Proceeding carefully and responsibly allows the church to steward both time and resources well.

5. What challenges have the projects faced?

  • Rising construction costs
  • Technical complexity (e.g. piling, structural requirements)
  • Contractor selection and timing decisions. These are being navigated with prayer, wisdom, and professional diligence.

6. What is the long-term vision behind these developments?
To create spaces that support:

  • Discipleship and spiritual formation
  • Community life within the church
  • Outreach and service to the wider community.

7. Is Covenant financially healthy overall?
Yes. The church remains financially stable, with strong reserves and prudent financial management in place.

8. What does this mean for members?
Members are encouraged to continue:

  • Praying for the church and its leadership
  • Participating in ministry life
  • Giving faithfully as the Lord leads

Moving Forward Together
As we step into the next season, there is a quiet confidence among us.

The Seed Fund helped us build spaces for ministry. The next season is about building people for God’s kingdom.

We trust that the same God who has provided for us thus far will continue to lead us as we steward His work together, as one Covenant family.
