CancerCARE Ministry brings you Hope Retreat 2024. This year’s theme is “Believing in Christ, Speaking of Jesus” anchored on 2 Corinthians 4:13, “We’re not keeping this quiet, not on your life. Just like the psalmist who wrote, ‘I believed it, so I said it,’ we say what we believe.”
You will find stories of renewal and hope in this retreat. And this retreat can also be your own story of being strengthened by the God who loves, cares and saves. Be part of Hope Retreat 2024. Be that story that speaks about Jesus who comforts the brokenhearted and mourns with the grieving — the story we all need in our journey of pain and suffering, our season of disappointment, discouragement and distress.

Lucy Lim is the author of the books “Joy Beyond Cancer” and “When It’s Beyond Me”. She was diagnosed with cancer twice and wasn’t expected to live long following her bad prognosis in 2017. Her cancer had metastasized. Yet she continued to live with joy, purpose, and a sense of adventure. What keeps her going? What gives her hope in the midst of pain and suffering? Where does her resilience come from? Her story is one of enduring faith.
Pastor Portia Chan had her first brush with stage 4 lymphoma in 1996 when it began as a chronic cough with fever. Upon discovery of the 14 cm tumour wrapping and pressing on her lungs, she began chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In 1997 the cancer was back with a vengeance. This began her difficult and challenging journey of undergoing stem cell transplant in the same year. It necessitated a one month stay in the hospital’s isolation room where all her bad as well as good cells were eradicated before the procedure could be carried out. In 2004, she started her ministry in Covenant EFC with the Mandarin & Dialect Ministry. Currently, she is overseeing a district in Bukit Panjang Centre.
