Dear Covenanters,
Learning to love others well is a key foundation for a disciple-making church. Loving others is how we honour and serve the Lord, and can only happen as an outflow of God’s love for us. Here’s the problem: loving others can be very challenging. There are hurts, emotional baggage, and other dysfunctions of the soul that get in the way.
Despite these challenges that result from our sinful human nature, the fact remains: God created us to live in community. In His family – the Church – God has called us to be spiritual friends to one another, spurring one another onwards towards Christlikeness and missional living.
We mustn’t forget however that the call to love others goes beyond the confines of the Church community. The world cries out for the Father’s love. We can best proclaim this love when we truly listen to our non-Christian family, friends, and colleagues and understand them for who they are.
