Deeper Reflection
As we end this week’s series of Devotional Journal entries, let’s
look back on what we have learnt over the past few days. All
the nations, including Singapore, are in God’s sovereign and
loving hands. This calls for a response of faith and obedience, in word
and deed. But this response always flows from a recognition of and
rejoicing in who God is and what He has done. God always has the
initiative and it is His glorious name that matters above all. As the
hymnwriter Charles Wesley put it:“Rejoice, the Lord is King:
Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart,
Lift up your voice!
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!”Psalm 33 begins with a set of imperatives in verses 1 to 3, calling all the
righteous to sing and to praise the LORD. Praising God is what we
were created to do – it is fitting! Thus, joy results when we praise God.
We praise God because He is faithful (v.4). He is the awesome Creator
(vv.6-9). He foils the plans and purposes of those opposed to Him (v.10),
while causing His own plans and purposes to endure. It is this confidence
that causes the Psalmist to wait in hope for the LORD, to place his trust
in God’s name (vv.20-22) and place his life in God’s hands.What will your response be today? Will you choose to rejoice in
the Lord? Will you entrust Singapore, and your life and witness as a
Christian in Singapore, into God’s faithful hands?
