Deeper Reflection
God’s people from all walks of life responded to Nehemiah’s call to rebuild the walls so they could be protected from their enemies. Rebuilding the broken walls required a concerted effort. Today, there are many “broken walls” and fault-lines between the generations, in our society and even within the church (young and old; married and singles; working adults and retirees). For instance, the elderly who live with their families may face social isolation, emotional disengagement and loneliness.¹ Let us pray that godly generations will bridge these relational divides, empowered by the love of God.Studies in Singapore found that one in three young people reported internalising mental health symptoms such as sadness, anxiety and loneliness. ² Let us pray that the generations will experience the shalom (fullness and flourishing) that only God can provide, because they know the love of God and the loving fellowship of God’s people.According to Singapore’s Department of Statistics, the rate of divorce and annulment rose by 13.4% from 2020. Let us pray for God’s protection over the generations and families.God loves the generations and desires us to rebuild the “broken walls” in our land so that the generations would not be defenceless against the enemy.
