Why We Worship

"Everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory,
whom I have formed, even whom I have made."
Isaiah 43:7

"Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever."
The Westminster Catechism

We worship God because that is why He created us - to give Him glory. We worship Him because of who He is and what He has done. Everything in the Christian life begins and ends with worship - the central expression of our love and gratitude toward God. We worship and glorify God not just through music, songs and dance, but with our whole beings, in and through our daily lives. Our weekly worship services are wonderful occasions for us to gather as one Body to affirm our identity as the people of God and to celebrate and worship God together.

How We Worship at Our Weekly Services

We base our worship on the Word of God

We worship God for who He is as He has revealed Himself in His Word. We also worship Him in ways that He desires to be worshiped as revealed in His Word, whether it be in our inward posture (e.g. contriteness, awe, adoration) or in our outward posture (e.g. lifting our hands, clapping, kneeling).

Our worship style is contemporary

We use contemporary instruments and worship styles, and give space for people to respond to God in their own ways. We want to create a conducive environment for vibrant worship by leading our congregation to worship God through contemporary praise songs and choruses, hymns, Scripture, prayer, dance, drama, silence, sound, light and visual projections, and other creative forms of communication.

We take a balanced approach to worship

While our worship style is contemporary, we sing Christian songs of all genres and believe in the continued singing of hymns as the expression of a loving desire to preserve a timeless universal heritage.

While we believe in different expressions of worship, we also recognize that we need to be sensitive toward the existing form of worship and the culture of the congregation prevailing in Covenant EFC.

We believe in spiritual and technical planning and preparation, but also want to be sensitive to the Spirit's leading.
