A CONSISTENT PRAYER LIFE often begins with discipline before it becomes a delight. It might take us a lifetime to bridge this gap. But if we do not start with discipline, I am afraid we will not make any progress at all.
One of the transformational strategies of Covenant is “Empower Me”, where we seek to empower God’s people in their prayer life. We are determined to press on and see busy Covenanters grow in their prayer lives. Covenant’s church board members come together every Saturday morning at 6.30am to pray and fellowship. This is a discipline not many churches have. Over the years, it has become a great delight for our leaders.
We have also kept our monthly Day of Prayer for many years now. We used to have it on a Friday night, but most of us arrived tired after a hard day’s work. Subsequently, we made a bold move to shift our time of prayer to a Saturday afternoon. Covenanters responded well to this change. More people participated. Hearts were blessed. And we rejoice at the progress.
We used to have 24-hr prayer chains on the eve of National Day, then our Dawn Prayers and 24/7 prayer chains. This year, we are led not just to have Dawn Prayer but a “Dawn and Day with Jesus” on 5 August as well. We term it as “D&D with Jesus”. We believe that if we can show you how you can spend a day with Jesus, your spiritual life would take on a new depth. It can then be a spiritual discipline you do on a regular basis. It will give you the confidence to venture into our annual 3D2N silence and solitude retreat.
Recently, I observed that God is teaching the church board to LISTEN, LEARN and then LEAD God’s people into His purposes. I believe you can do likewise. The Lord has also impressed upon me Psalm 103:7—“He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.” (ESV) To know His ways, we have to listen. To see His acts, we have to move out in faith. Without listening and moving out in faith, we know nothing and see nothing.
