Covenant Groups

Covenant EFC believes that true discipleship happens best in a community. And Covenant Groups (CGs) are our basic discipleship communities, where members care for and grow with one another as we live out our Christian faith. Joining a Covenant Group is a great way for newcomers to get to know us and connect with the life of the church.

What is a Covenant Group?

Each CG is made up of 8 to 15 believers who desire to affirm the primacy of God’s Word in their lives, experience the reality of God as well as cultivate an authentic walk with Him. We meet weekly in homes to laugh, cry, care, feast, learn, serve and pray together. In this sharing of our lives through CGs, we model the life of discipleship and find help to persevere, thereby creating a community that is bonded together in love.

What are Covenant Groups for?

CGs are the centre of spiritual development and community life in Covenant. The CG is a safe place where we can be real with one another. In such a community, lives are renewed, spirits are refreshed, emotions are healed, and wills are motivated towards authentic discipleship.

CG members also grow in discipleship and unity when we participate as a CG community in church life. As our church leaders lead us in fulfilling God’s calling for our church, the CG intentionally aligns with their direction, so that we can serve the world outside the church and grow as credible witnesses for the Lord. Testimony

In the past, my husband refused to be in a cell. No amount of coercion, reasoning and pleading would make him change his mind. A cell group was his equivalent of an AA 12 steps programme group. He was not into people and forming new relationships with them.

However, since we came to Covenant, my daughter and I noticed that he started reading the Bible more. He read in the morning and before he went to bed with such regularity that I knew in my heart God was doing His work in my husband`s life. There was a spiritual hunger to know and want more of God’s Word.

Then one day he said to me, “Let’s go visit some cell groups.” There he experienced the love and care and accountability of the people. He saw love extended, grace released, tears wiped away, brothers forgiven, relationships restored and recognised that life is so much richer, more fulfilling in a community.

In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by the way he was forging new bonds with the men in the group. He was transparent, willing to share from the heart and learn, and was willing to participate in all CG activities. He even offered to host a group at our place when the group became too big and needed to multiply. I saw him working towards improving his relationship with his parents, paying more attention to them and wanting to share the gospel with them and taking them on short vacations. Likewise, his friends and employees benefited from this change.
Further, my husband now prays for the family, seeks God for direction and leads accordingly. I thank God for using the Covenant community to give me HIS BEST – a husband of A CERTAIN KIND!
